Baxter is a classic Southern belle and John is a former Marine. Proving love can be found in unexpected places, they met on a bus, just a week after he returned from Afghanistan. That bus ride marked the beginning of their love story, which led to John’s surprise proposal on Baxter’s grandmother’s property, which led to the gorgeous June weekend when they were married. Before the main event, though, Baxter and John jumped at the opportunity to welcome their guests to South Carolina in style, planning and hosting a welcome party, a rehearsal dinner, and a pre-wedding lunch.

The festivities began on Thursday night at Big Tuna in Georgetown, South Carolina. The back of the restaurant stretches over the water, so guests thoroughly enjoyed eating and drinking on the pier and watching the sun set while the band Solid Country Gold played. The themes of great food and live music continued throughout the weekend; next up was a rehearsal dinner at Frank’s Restaurant, where the festivities overflowed from the dining room to an outdoor tent, complete with a set by the lively Wonder Bread 5. Finally, Baxter and John began their wedding day with a casual gathering on the beach, a fun contrast to the formal celebration later that day. They covered a long table with sunflowers where guests could sit to enjoy lunch, wine, champagne, and beer a friend custom-brewed for the occasion.
